Night-Before-Exam Checklist for Parents

A calm ritual that keeps admin, logistics, and emotions under control before your learner heads into the hall.

CHECKLIST

  1. Confirm the paper details. Subject, time, venue, permitted equipment.
  2. Pack the bag. Add spare pens, calculator batteries, admission letter, water bottle, and snack.
  3. Lay out the uniform/clothes. Remove morning decision fatigue.
  4. Prep breakfast ingredients. Overnight oats or muffins ready to go.
  5. Charge devices. Ensure alarms and transport communication will work even during load shedding.
  6. Set transport backups. Arrange a contingency driver or ride-share just in case.
  7. Run a calm conversation. Ask “What feels strong?” instead of “Have you studied enough?”
  8. Plan a short relaxation activity. Walk, stretch, or favourite series episode—keep it intentional.
  9. Lock in sleep. Lights off at a set time; keep phones out of the bedroom if possible.
  10. Write a morning note. A sticky note on the mirror or lunch bag boosts confidence.

Print this checklist or save it as a phone note so you can re-use it throughout the exam season.
